Jim Opfer
DipArch RIAS RIBA
DIRECTOR
Leaving school in 1972, I started as an apprentice with Watson Salmond and Gray Architects. I enrolled in the Part Time course at the Mackintosh School of Architecture and studied for 3 years before taking the offer to become a full time student half way through my studies. I graduated in 1978. I like the idea of apprenticeship for Architects and I still consider apprenticeship with part-time study, transferring to full time education half way through, to offer the best education.
Having become a practice principal
in 1984, I co-founded Opfer Logan
Architects in 1997.
I have gained experience in a wide range of projects including: Residential (Private houses, private developments and social housing), Commercial, Health and Education, working with Listed Buildings and Industrial projects.
Outwith my professional career, I
am a Board Member and deputy Chairman
of Mainstay Trust, a charitable organisation who provide support to
those with learning or physical disability. I also play and teach
Flamenco guitar.
